Draft Girth
Information on Australian Saddles?
I’ve never ridden in an australian saddle before, but i was just recently given one as a gift. It does fit my horse. He is a draft 17.2hh. The saddle did not come with a girth. It has a long strap on one side and normal girth straps on the other (like in an english saddle.) I was looking at girths to purchase online, and some have that long strap and others look just like a plain english girth. Does it matter which type I use? Will both work with my saddle? The help is really appreciated! Thanks!
My aussie saddle has a plain punched strap for the “over girth”. I am not sure if that is the proper term, but is it a strap that is independent of the other billets and actually runs over top of the saddle. It uses what looks like a regular girth. Some over girths have a ring on one end and a punched billet strap on the other. With these you use the girth with the long strap I believe.
